Victorian hotel overlooking Scarborough Harbour and South Bay, built in 1863

Historic Architecture

The Grand Scarborough was built in 1863 and designed around the theme of time, with four towers representing the seasons, twelve floors for the months of the year, fifty-two chimneys for the weeks, and originally three hundred and sixty-five bedrooms for each day. This Victorian landmark overlooks Scarborough Harbour and South Bay, and was chosen as one of Historic England's seven wonders of the English seaside. The hotel's public areas retain their original ornate charm, including a grand staircase and spacious lounges.

On-Site Dining

The Harbour Lights Restaurant offers sea views over the bay and serves a buffet breakfast alongside traditional English meals throughout the day. The Coffee Shop provides light lunches and afternoon tea, while the Premier Restaurant offers exclusive dining options. The on-site bar serves a variety of drinks, including single malts and gins, and there is a vending machine for snacks.

Live Entertainment

The Cabaret Ballroom hosts the hotel's nightly entertainment programme, featuring professionally produced shows, live singers, and a variety of activities delivered by the in-house entertainment team. Guests can enjoy complimentary daytime activities and evening entertainment every night of the year. The hotel also has a sun terrace for relaxing with sea views.

Location & Attractions

The hotel is located 650 metres from Scarborough Beach and within easy walking distance of Scarborough Castle, Peasholm Park, and the Scarborough Spa. Scarborough's sandy beaches and the railway station are also close by. The central position provides easy access to local transport and attractions.

Rooms & Facilities

The hotel offers a variety of room types, including family rooms and pet-friendly accommodations with facilities for dogs. Accessibility features are available for disabled guests, and the hotel has a lift and 24-hour front desk. Flexible event spaces can accommodate up to 400 guests for weddings, conferences, and celebrations.

Acceptable stay overall

sea view hot food faulty toilet leaky tap
the eating area overlooks the sea and harbour, I enjoyed that view. The staff made sure hot food was served at all times so that was nice.
The toilet did NOT flush properly. This was a problem. When I turned the tap on, the sink leaked water and flooded the bathroom. This was messy.
